Your form letter of August 17, 1979 addressed to the " Editor - U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission News Releases" has been referred to me for reply.
You requested our " observations on the needs of local governments", especially courses and training materials related to disaster management.
Enclosed is a copy of our draft catalogue of training programs related to radiological emergency response planning and preparedness, available to State and local government personnel. Also enclosed are brochures describing the Radiological Emergency Response Operations (RER0) training program which is the center piece of NRC's training program.
Over 1200 State, local and Federal government people have been trained in our planning course, coordinator's course and the RERO course in the past 3 years.
Also enclosed is a brochure describing the courses conducted by the Oak Ridge Associated Universities.
All of our training programs have been well received by State and local government perscnnel.
