SUBJECT:

Waterford SES - Unit No. 3 Docket No. 50-382 Status of Significant Construction Deficiencies No. 6 " Emergency Diesel Generators-Defective Shafts & Springs" No. 10 " Defective Emergency Generator Roller Pin"

REFERENCE:

a) LP&L Letter, LPL 10343 dated December 29, 1978 b) LP&L Letter, LPL 10233 dated December 5, 1978 As Amended by LPL 10316 dated December 19, 1978 As Amended by LPL 11903 dated August 31, 1979

Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

In accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e), LP&L has previously submitted interin reports of the two Significant Construction Deficiencies concerning the emergency diesel generators. Based on communications with Cooper-Bessemer, the manufacturer of the diesel generators, LP&L reported in the referenced letters that modifications correcting the deficiencies were scheduled to be completed and final reports submitted by November 1, 1979.

Cooper-Bessemer has informed us that the modification assemblies were rejected and reordered. New modification assemblies for the defective emergency gener-ator roller pins are now scheduled to be shipped by November 15, 1979. This delay by Cooper-Bessemer still'does not adversely impact Waterford 3 construc-tion needs and is acceptable.

Based on the above, in addition to adding adequate time fot inspection and installa. tion activities, we will now submit final reports for Significant Construction Deficiencies No. 6 and No.10 by }brch 15, 1980.
