Dear Mr. Seidle:
This letter is to confirm notification, given by Messrs. Clark and Prigel to Mr. C.R. Oberg at the Wolf Creek Site on August 24, that we are increasing the scope of our investigation of a pott.ntial 50.55(e) item regarding piping assemblies furnished by Gulf and Western Energy Products Group (G&W) . As previously reported in Reference (b) and Reference (c) ,- Class II assemblies will be reworked to improve the surface condition of the welds and then will be re-radiographed. This rework has not yet been accomolished and there is nothing further to report abo'ut the Class II assemblies at this time.
However, Daniel forces at the site have found several welds in Class III assemblies (which do not require x-ray) which do not appear to meet the visual inspection requirements for Class III welds; therefore, the investigation of G&W assemblies has been expanded to include both Class II and III assemblies. All Class III assemblies are being reinspected and a Nonconformance Repo d will be initiated and processed for all welds which do not meet acceptance criteria.
