i,
Dear Sir:
Three Mile Island Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No DPR-50 Envirorcental Technical Specification In accordance with Section 2.2.1, Appendix B of the Inrirorsental Technical Specifications (Tech Specs) for T'4I-1, please find enclosed a copy of the Final Report and Appendices to the Development of Cooling Water Chlorination Practices of the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station.
This study was conducted in order to fulfill the requirements of the Tech.
Specs. which require the plant operating staff to:
1.
Establish operating techniques and procedures to ensure that the chlorine releases are ec_ ensurate with adequate equip =ent defouling and of long ter= or vide-spread damage to the aquatic biota, and 2,
Confirm the adequacy of the limit of 1 ppm or deter =ine a nev limit on residual chlorine in the cooling tower blevdown to assure that the chlorine vill not be in excecs of 0.01 ppm when discharged to the river.
Due to the per:11tted length of this program (ninety days) it was deter =ined that no long ter= affects or videspread da= age to the aquatic biota in the Susquehanna River ceuld be studied. It was assumed however, that if the imposed li=itations are met, (i.e. 1 ppm in the cooling tower blevdown), there vill be no measurable effect on the biota.
