Dear Mr. Schwencer:

NRC IE BULLETIN NO. 79-07 SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE NO. 1 SALEM GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-272 In our letter to you of October 11, 1979, we described our program for the reanalysis and modification of supports, nozzles and penetrations after entering Mode 2.

We called this Phase III of our program.

The purpose of this letter is to amend the Phase III program to read as follows:

1.

We shall complete reanalysis of the remaining pipe supports outside containment and shall propose a schedule for implementation of all identified modifications, both within sixty (60) days of the date of plant startup.

2.

For each modification identified as a result of reana3ysis of the supports outside containment after resumption of facility operation, when the overall margin of safety of the support to ulti-mate capacity is determined to be less than 2, the NRC shall be notified within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
after making each such determination.

The affected system shall be considered inoperable as that term is used in the facility Technical Specifications until the necessary modifications are implemented within the time frame allowed by the Technical Specifications unless a reanalysis of the affected piping system is performed with the overstressed support removed from the system to demonstrate system operable.
