In accordance with Technical Specification 6.9.2.A.8, we are re-porting that an error was found in the methods used for calculating the volume of boron required to bring the reactor to a cold shutdo...

condition as required by Technical Specification 3.2.

On 16 December 1977, Metropolitan Edison. Company was informed by the NSS supplier, B&W, that the volume required by Technical Specifica-tions was insufficient to bring the reactor to a cold shutdown condition and that 776 ft3 of 8700 ppm boron. or equivalent would be required to meet the bases of Technical Specification 3.2.

Upon receipt of this infor: nation TMI-I immediately increased thethan theequivalentof776ftgencentratedboricacidsolutiontogreater volume of the source of of 8700 ppm boron.

Further corrective action will be discussed in the followup report.
