Title:
Leakage of the Makeup and Purification System "3" Letdevn Cccler Type: A reportable ccourrence as defined by Technical Specifications 6.9.2.3 (h) in that the Makeup and Purification System "B" Letdevn Cccler, MU-CIE, was leaking at the rate cf a few milliliters per day, which constitutes abner:.a1 degradation of a system designed to centain radicactive caterial resulting frem_the fissicn prccess.

At 1615 hours0.0187 days <br />0.449 hours <br />0.00267 weeks <br />6.145075e-4 months <br /> en September 15, 1976 shell side samples obtained frc= the Makeup and Purification Syste: "3" Letdevn Occler confirmed previous indications which suggested a leak. It had been apparent for approxi=ately forty-five (h5) days that a minor leak existed frc= the Reactor Coolant Syste=
(RCS) into the Intermediate Closed Cooling System (ICCS);
hcvever, due to the small size of the leak, it was extremely difficult to confir= vhere the leak existed in order to isolate it.
I:=ediately the ' 3" Letdevn Ccoler was isolated to stcp the small leakage of reacter ecclant into the ICCS.
(T) Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence:
The nature and cause of the leakage has not been deter =ined and will act be kncun until the cooler has been repaired or replaced during a future plant cutage.
(8) Analysis of Occurrence:
It has been deter =ined that this occurrence did not constitute a threat to the health and safety of the public in that the leakage of reacter coolant was at all times confined to the ICCS by design and the peak activity observed in the system was approxi=ately 3 x 10-4 ue/cc gross which did not in any way pose a radiological hazard to operating personnel.
(9) Corrective Ac; ion:
In addition to the i==ediate corrective action described above, appropriate repair vill be perfor=ed at a future plant cutage.
The Plant Operatiens Review Cec =ittee and Unit Superin-tendent have reviewed and approved the above ccrrective acticn and have taken steps to assure its cc=pletion.

No failure =cde data is available at this time. The eccler manufacturer is as follovs: Graha Manufacturing Co.
