3.1.h Autecatic Sprinkler Systems or 10-01-80 Coating of Electrical Cables 3.1.8 Fire Doors 10-01-80 3.1.11 Fire Barriers at Reactor Building ECR-81 Emergency Cooling Valves 3.1.21 Alternate Shutdevn Capability EOR-81 Justification 3.1.h Autcmatic Sprinkler Systems or Coating of Electrical Cables - As stated in the FEA, Section h.7.1.3, implementation of either an autcratic sprinkler system or coating of the control cable trays vculd provide adequate fire pro-tection. However, =arinite beards are provided between redundant trays, and should the results of the marinite tests indicate the marinite to be unaccept-able, additional sprinklers er cable tray coating would be required. 3 erefore, the overall scope of work cannet be iefined until July 15, 1979, upcn ec=pletion of the marinite testing. Due to the time involved in precurement and installa-tion of equipment / materials, it is anticipated that the vorst case situation can be designed and. implemented by October 1, 1980.
3.1.8 Fire Dcors - Met-Ed is performing a QA dccumentation sea c'- in an attempt to qualify the existing fire dcors. However, should the search pro-vide unacceptable recults, replacement of many fire decr assemblies may be necessary. As stated in Met-Ei '.etter of September 15, 1973 (GQ1 153k),

~4. Reid, Chief September 29, 1978 GGL 1585 door replacement vould be very costly and a long-term project. Met-Zd anticipates that a vorst case door replacement project eculd be ecmpleted by Cetober 1, 1980.
3.1.11 Fire Barriers at Reactor Building Energency Cooling Valves - The acceptability of these barriers is dependent upon the acceptability of the marinite. If the marinite is found to be unacceptable upon completion of the marinite testing (July 15, 1979), a sprinkler system may have to be in-stalled. Procurement of materials would not be possible by the 1930 refueling cutage and installation vould therefore have to be accceplished during the 1981 refueling outage.
3.1.21 Alternate Shutdown Capability - Met-Ed is performing a study to determine the possibility of providing an alternate shutdown capability in-dependent of the cables in the relay roc =. Results of the study vill be submitted to URC by December 31, 1978. Ecvever, assuming the results of the study to be verst case, such that an electrical penetration vould have to be procured and installed, and all new cabling pulled, the design, procurement and installation of the alternate sh"tdevn capability would not be cc=pleted until the 1981 refueling cutage.
Met-Ed intends to accomplish all fire protection modifications as early as possible where required maintenance and construction permit. NRC vill be in-formed as the modifications are implemented.
