C. G. Iong, Chief, PWR No. 2, DEL IOCA 'IHYEDID DOSES FOR 'IEEEC MIIE ISIAND NO.1 The postulated accidents inve recently been rea:nlysed for Three Mile Tsinrxl No.1 ('IMI-1) using the curant AEC accident dose ccanputcr model.

All the results are well within 10 CPR 100 guidelines except the excluninn boundary thyroid dose fc= the Irss of Coolant Accident (LOCA). Using spray reduction factom developed by G. Purley for Wim thicaulfate, I/Q values developed by E. Markee for type P metecrology.6 Ws wind velocity, ani a containmnt leak rate of.25/ day, the LOCA thyroid dose at tre exclusion boundary is 433 ren.

As y%t know, the applicant agreed at a unetirE cn July 13,1771, to do more work on the method of metecmlogy data analysis. The results of this additional work cou3d Inve an appreciable effect on the IDCA thyroid dose at the exclusion boundary; i.e., at 1 Ws Wari velocity the above IOCA dose is 260 ran. Nevertheless, it appears to us that Ibrther effort by the applicant is required *w reduce the above dose.

A reduction in leak rate or irr*n11ntico of HEPA or charecal filters would probably pmvide sufficient reduction.
