Faulkner Requested Cosplation Date: May 11, 1973 Applicant's Response Date: May 9, 1973 Description of Response: Confirmation of telecon infornation Review Status: Complete pending confirmation of telecon information by applicant Enclosed is our evaluation of the subcompartment pressure analysis recently completed for the Three Mile Island, Unit 1 facility.
The report should be included as a supplement to the Safety Evaluation Report.
We have calculated pressures for both the reactor cavity and steam generator compartments below the specified design values. Our original calculations for the steam generator compartit-nt, based on inforration supplied by the applicant in Amendment 35, indicated calculated pressures above the design values. Subsequent telephone conversations with the applicant and Gilbert Associates resulted in a reevaluation (by Gilbert) of the volumes ard vent areas for this compartment.
This more detailed evaluation resulted in changes to boe.h the volume and vent area values as presented in Amendment 35.
These data were transmittgd to us by phpe on April 9,1973. The volume changed fran 89,000 ft t 76,578 ft while the vent area increased from 910 f t' 2
to 1441 ft These new values were used to calculate the pressure response as indicated in our evaluation to the Safety Evaluation Report. This revised information provided by the applicant should be formally documented, a gaA s W 3 by:
