THREE MILE ISLAHP UNIT 1 SUMMART OF M'tI1NG HELD ON AUGUST 17, 1973 On August 17, 1973 the tie===ing Project Manager met with the applicant and Mr. J. McPhillips of the Harrisburg International Airport staff to discuse===== of monitoring heavy aircraf t traffic at the airport. Aftaivard, discussions were held with the applicant at tha site on plant staffing and the =A=inistrative sections of the Technie=1 Specifications. Metropolitan Edison was represented by J. Herbein, Assistant Plant Superintendent, and J. Colitz, Station Engineer.
Airport Traffic Airport procedures fer logging aircraft movements were reviewed to establish a reasonable method to determine the number of aircraft using tu airport which ave =ad 200,000 lbs weight. Nctations of individual aircraf t movanenta are made but the aircrzf t traffic log is filled cut on a summary basis using FAA Forn 7230-1 which lists aircraft by class (sir carrier, general, etc.) not by weight.
Various means of estimating the haavy aircraft useage were discussed and it was agreed that the applicant shall contact airport authorities annually and obtain actual traffic for the preceding year from the data on the FAA Form 7230-1 or its equivalent. The fraction of this traffic which is in excess of 200,000 lbs weight will be provided by consultation with the airport==nagement.
Thes,a discussions brought out some details of interest. A spot check of about 100 Instrument Flight Rule movements for August 15, 1973 showed only 4 by aircraft over 200,000 lbs weight.
Flight paths were also discussed. At the Harrisburg airport takeoffs by large aircraf t usually go out about three miles before starting their turns. On landings, the initial contact on the East Instrument Landing System is about six miles out.
The Three Mile Island plants
(','
are located to the Southoast about 2.5 miles out from the end of the f/
runway and 1.5 miles to one side.
