Dear Mr. MacDonald:
This refers to your letter dated April 27, 1979 request ing additional information to enable your office to evaluate our QA program for transportation packages for normal form radioactive material.
Marvin ?!. Turkanis, our Vice President, and I, were fortunate enough to have met with "essers. John Gilray and Jim Conway of the NRC on itay 30.
We discussed the shortcomings of our present progran and the Cor.- ission's acceptance criteria, and our daire to have a single corporate QA prograr, especially in light of the re-quiren ants of the Food and Drug Administration's Good Manufacturing Pracuces (21 CFR Part 820, revised July 21, 1978),
Accordingly, we propose to prepare an overall Qi plan which will deal with trans-portation packages for both normal and special fora radioactive material, source fabrication, and other selected products. This will be recre difficult and cenplex than preparing a plan for shipping radioactive r.aterial only 1ut ne are confident that the results will be worth the effort and be tore effective for the radioactive shipment portion.
In order to accomplish our goal and to satisfy the requirenents of bo'.-h agencies, ua will need an extension of time beyond tha thirty days provided in our letter.
The person responsible for coordinating the outlines has estinated thit it will take about four months to complete.
Therefore, we request an extensio i of time to submit our revised plan to September 30, 1979.
If an extension cannot be granted, please rotify ne at once. Thank you for your consideration.
