Dear Dr. Ecndrie:
The Directers of the l'aine State Chamber of Connerce are cost concerncd regarding the p:.ecipitous action of the !!EC in the closing down of the l'aine Yankee Ate.ic Electric Generating Station. Uhile ve are not uncindful of the safety considerations irr
?d, this action appears to represent flagrant os
- otection by the Federal government thrc '. ;h the r.
itory process.
Enen one cenbines the extremely rc=ote possibility of an earthauake at this site with the further considcration that an earthquake would result in pipe failure in the..ine Yankee Atomic plant, the action closing the plant would seca to be regulatory overkill.
Today Maine Yankee announced the plant does, in fact, cect IEC standards. Further consideiing the 40,000 barrels of oil per day being consuced to replace the statien's generating ability and the $6 million a =cnth this is costing Mainc consuners, we urge you to authorise ic=ediately the start-up cf this plant. Each day'c delay has a negative impact on our state's residents and economy that we believe is completely unnecessary.
Sincerely,
/
