Grand Gulf Nuclear Station File 0260/0498/15525/15526 Interim Report for PRD-79/09 As Defined in 10CFR50.55(e)
AECM-79/45 On April 18, 1979, Mississippi Power & Light Company notified Mr. J. K.
Rausch of your office, of a potential reportable deficiency at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station construction site concerning seventy-three (73) 4-inch standard long radius 90 degre'e elbows. The elbow material was produced by the U. S.
Steel Corporation and identified by heat number W6719/ASME SA234, Grade WPB.
Due to an error at the U. S. Steel shop, material having a carbon content greater than specified was identified with a low carbon steel heat number.
In order to evaluate the consequences had such a condition remained. undetected, the location of the elbows and system function must be determined.
The evaluation of installed elbows or those in prefabricated _ piping assemblies is still in process at this time. A final report determining reporta-bility will be submitted to you by August 25, 1979.
