U. S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Post Office Box 1306 Albuquerque, New Mexico 87103

Dear Mr. Nelson:

In preparing the Final Supplement to the Final Environmental Statement related to Construction of the Allens Creek Nuclear Generating Station, Unit No.1, Austin County, Texas, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requested and received formal consultation pursuant to the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (NRC Letters dated October 14, 1977, February 7, 1978, and U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service letter dated March 9, 1978). This consultation was generally restricted to the endangered Attwater's prairie chicken population occurring along the proposed route of Trans-mission Corridor lA. Additional, informal consultation with USFWS personnel took place during the site visit at the proposed site for the Allens Creek facility in August,1977.

In compliance with Section 7(c) of the Endangered Species Act Amendments of 1978 (P.L.95-632, Nov.10,1978), the Nuclear Regulatory Comission requests any additional information available from the Department of the Interior on the presence of any listed or proposed to be listed endangered or threatened species in the area of the proposed Allens

' Creek site. Copies of appropriate sections of the Final Environmental Statement and its Supplement are attached to this letter.

Please contact Mr. Richard W. Freelich [(301) 492-8442] if you need further information. Mr. Froelich is the NRC Environmental Project Manager on this project.
