20555 Docket No. 50-267

Subject:

Review of Technical Specifi-cation Setpoints References :

1) PSC letter P-78192, C.K.

Millen to T.P. Speis, December 5,1978

2) NRC letter T.P. Speis to J.K. Fuller, August 28, 1978
3) PSC letter P-77196, C.K.

Millen to R.P. Denise, September 20, 1977 Gentlemen:

As a result of unanticipated delays experienced in the PSC program to re-view the Technical Specification Setpoints as outlined in Reference 3, and due in part to PSC anticipation of an NRC response regarding the acceptability of the results for Category I items submitted previously, PSC is unable to meet the schedule for completing the evaluation of Category II items (Reference 1).

A schedule for the evaluation of Category II and III items was set forth in Reference 1, assuming NRC concurrence with the approach utilized to evaluate the absolute trip values and instrument trip settings for Category I items.

In the absence of any NRC response to the approach selected or the results pre-viously submitted to the Conmission, the evaluation of Category II items is con-tinuing, utilizing the same approach that was used for the Category I items.

The schedule for completing the evaluation of Category II and III items is revised as follows:

A.

Category II and unresolved Category I items will be evaluated with the intent of identifying absolute trip values and instrument settings for submittal to the NRC by September 1,1979.

Mr. Themis P. Speis June 12, 1979 Page 2 B.

Evaluation of Category III items will be initiated within thirty (30) days of receiving NRC approval of the absolute trip values and instru-ment trip settings for Category II items.

PSC would appreciate receiving any NRC comments or responses regarding the approach being taken or the results previously submitted.

Very truly yours, M
