NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES PEACH BOTTOM UNITS 2 & 3 Mav, 1979 UNIT 2 .

Unit 2 operated at rated power until May 4, when a 200 MWe reduction was required due to loss of condenser vacuum. The Unit returned to rated power on May 5 On May 13, a controlled shutdown was initiated to: acco=modate replacement of the recombiner conderiser tube bundle, replace the 2A recirculating pump seal, perform feedwater heater leak testing and complete cable modifications required to meet separation criteria. The Unit returned to service on May 24 During the startup ramp on May 25, a 50 MWe load drop occurred due to a recirculation pump runback initiated during feedwater control system balancing.

The load was recovered shortly thereafter. A small load reduction was begun on May 26 to set the final rod pattern.

  • Following the rod adjustment, the Unit reached full power on imy 28.

UNIT 3 Unit 3 operated at rated power until May 1, when the 'B' fee dwate r string was recoved from service due to excessive leakage in the 23 feedwater heater. The Unit operated at reduced load until May 18.

Another load reduction to 300 MWe was required to reduce off-gas radiation levels in order to repair the adjacent Unit 2 o f f-gas pipe elbow. Unit 3 load was returned to 940 59e on May 20. An outage is scheduled to begin on June 1 in order to replace the recombiner condenser and repair feedwater heater leaks.
