Dear Mr. Mcdonald:
The purpose of this letter is to confirm an understanding reached via telecon between Mr. Richard Odegaarden of your office and Mr. Norman Shepard of Hittman Nuclear & Development Corporation (HNDC) on January 25, 1979. HNDC requested confirmation that we could discontinue use of the enclosed Driver Checklists in connection with shipments of radioactive materials made by HNDC with its certified casks. These checklists were included by HNDC in the Safety Analysis Reports submitted to your office for the HN-100 Series 1 and 2, UN-100S, HN-300, UN-400 and HN-600 casks. However, upon receipt of this certification it was noted that these checklists were not incorporated as a condition for certi-fication. We have therefore concluded that the checklists were not required and this was confirmed by Mr. Odegaarden.
It is HNDC's intent to submit a copy of this letter and the enclosed form letter to all of its customers and registered users of HNDC's certified casks.

The deletion of this document has been discussed with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and they have confirmed that the document is not required as a condition for certification.
A copy of this confirming letter which has been addressed to Mr. Charles E. Mcdonald, Chief, Transportation Branch, USNRC, is enclosed for your records and will be filed with each copy of the applicable Safety Analy-sis Report.
