.jf9 St. Mary's College License No. 22-00027-06 ATTN: Brother Peter Clifford, Ph.D.

President Winona, MN 55987 Gentlemen:

Thank you for your letter dated January 18, 1979, informing us of the steps you have taken to correct the noncompliances identified in our letter dated January 8, 1979. We understand from your letter that the Noncompliance Items Nos. 4 through 6 have been corrected.

In addition, we understand that you have filed an application, dated December 5, 1978, for appropriate amendments to your license to achieve corrective action for the Noncompliance Items Nos. 1 through 3 and to make other changes to your license as necessary. While your letter states that you have filed an application for an appropriate amendment to achieve corrective action for these items of noncompliance, it should be under-stood tnat no activity is in accord with NRC regulatory requirements unless and until it is specifically authorized in an NRC license.

Steps should be taken to ensure that NRC-licensed materials are hereafter possessed and used only as authorized bv your license. We will examine this matter during a future inspection.

Your cooperation with us is appreciated.

Sincerely, A a. 9 James G. Keppler f
