FEB 2 1979 Docket No. STN 50-545 Mr. Tom M. Anderson, Manager Nuclear Safety Department Westinghouse Electric Corporation P. O. Box 355 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15230
Dear Mr. Anderson:
SUBJECT:
APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF APPROVAL TERM FOR PDA-7 This is to acknowledge receipt of Amendment 14 to the RESAR-3S Preliminary Safety Analysis Report, which was transmitted by your letter dated December 15, 1978.
In that letter you requested a two-year extension of the Preliminary Design Approval for RESAR-35, PDA-7, as provided by the Conmission's August 22, 1978 Policy State-ment on Standardization.
As set forth in the Commission's policy statement, each application for a PDA extension will be subject to an assessment of the design with respect to the Category I, II, III and IV matters approved for implementation since the regulatory requirements cutoff date for that PDA.
It is our intention to notify each PDA holder individually about these matters, to the degree practical, approximately six months in advance of the PDA expiration date.
Since PDA-7 is due to expire on December 30, 1979, we have not identified these matters for the specific case of the RESAR-3S design. Consequently, you can expect to be notified in June 1979 whether any additional information beyond that contained in Amendment,14 is necessary in order for us to administratively extend PDA-7 for two additional years. We anticipate no difficulty in completing this review and extending the PDA prior to the expiration date of December 30,19/9.
