ESADA VALLECITOS EXPERIMENTAL SUPERHEAT REACTOR ANNUAL REPORT NO.11 (Deactivated)

General Liectric Company has maintained the ESADA Vallecitos Experimental Superheat Reactor (EVESR) in a deactivated status under the authority of Amendment No. 3 to License DR-10, Docket 50-183, issued June 11, 1976. In this eleventh annual report, a summary is presented to the status of the facility for the period from January 1,1973 to December 31,1978 as required by Paragraph 3.E.2 of the license.

I.

SUMMARY

The facility remains in essentially the same condition described in the tenth annual report.

Entry into the contc.inment building was made for routine radiation surveys and a general check of conditions throughout the building.

Radiation leveis remain essentially unchanged.

II. STATUS OF THE FACILITY Access to the containment building is controlled by the facility supervisor according to written procedures. The reactor vessel and head storage shield plugs, the wooden cover over the fuel storage pool and the locked covers for the personnel and equipment hatchways remain in place.

Ill. RADIATION AND CONTAMINATION Complete radiation and contamination survey:; of the facility indicate that the levels remain low as reported previously. Survey results are tabulated in Table 1.

IV. ACTIVITIE-No activities other than required routine inspections were conducted.

V. CONCLUSION The General Electric Company concludes that the deactivated ESADA Vallecitos Experimental Superheat Reactor is being maintained in a safe shutdown condition. The inspections, access control and administratively controlled activities ensure maximum protection for the public health and safety.

These procedures will be continued to maintain this high level of protection.
