Dear Mr. Ziemann:

This letter is be ing transmitted in accardance with Reference (a) to report the status of our progress towards completion of the Dresden Unit 1 HPCI System.

'!his progress report and future reports will be submitted on a three month basis.

Previous reports, for a period, were transmitted monthly per the requirements of Amendment No. 23 to Facility Operating License No. DPR-2.

However, with the expiration of the interim license conditions on October 31, 1978 all future reports, as stated above, will be transmitted quarterly as described in Reference (a).

Most of the structural work on the HPCI building has been finished except for several minor items such as HPCI pump collars, several hatches and a couple of small items on the roof.

The supports and cable trays have been installed on the first floor and supports installed on the second floor of the building.

In addition, electrical equipment is currently being locatei on the second floor.

All concrete has been poured for the valve house and penetration structure.

Concrete has been poured for the north electric duct run manholes #1, #2 and the section between manholes.

Commonwealth Edison NRC Docket No. 50-10 Mr. Dennis L. Ziemann: February 9, 1979 between manholes #2 and #3 and between the HPCI building and manhole #1 have been formed.

These items will be poured as soon as the weather improves.

The extremely severe winter, with its record breaking cold temperatures and heavy snowfall, has caused delays in doing this work.

General Electric is currently working on the thermal ahock analysis and Exxon is progressing on the Appendix K analysis.
