This letter constitutes our formal reply to the subject investigation report.

It is our opinion that nothing in the report or in this reply is proprietary in nature.

Our response to the item of noncomplunce identified in Appendix "A" of the report is as follows:

Corrective Action Taken and Results Achieved Henry J. Kaiser Company Nonconformance Report (NR) No. E-2147 was written to document the nonconforming condition. The Material Review Board has approved the " Accept-as-is" disposition and this NR has been closed.

Corrective Action Taken to Avoid Further Noncompliance Sargent & Lundy has issued Design Document Change (DDC) SLS-483 to permit installation of A-588 (Fy=50 ksi) or A-572 Grade 50 steel where 50 ksi material is noted on the Sargent & Lundy Drywell Steel Framing Drawings.

All Superintendents in charge of installation work have been instructed that requirements identifying size and grade material must be complied with or an authorized change must be obtained from our Architect-Engineer prior to implementing any deviation from a design document.

Additional Henry J. Kaiser Quality Control personnel have been assigned to this area to follow and inspect this work more closely to assure that the installation is in compliance with design requirements. Henry J. Kaiser QC personnel will completely verify the acceptability of materials utilized in the modification work in the Drywell.
