Gentlemen:
In our response to I E Bulletin 79-24, dated October 31, 1979, we identified the Arkansas Nuclear One-Unit 2 refueling water tank overflow line as being a possible freeze ha:ard.
Subsequent evaluation has revealed that this is not the case.
The overflow line in question is adequately protected from free:ing for the following reasons:
- 1) The temperature of the water in the tank is maintained above 70 F.
- 2) There is no water in the overflow line unless the tank is over-filled.
- 3) The overflow line is 13 inches in diameter.
Thus, no modifications will be made to the overflow line for freeze protection purpos es.
