Page 1 of 1 Doc ke t No. 50-333 Attachment to LER SC-015/03L-0 Descristion of Event On January 16, 1930, during the refueling physics testing, the reactor was critical at 10-8 amps power with the RCS TAVG temperature less than 541*F which is contrary to T.S. 3.1.1.5.

The RCS TAVG temperature was restored to greater than 541*F within the 15 minute time allowance of the action state =ent.

This event is reportable as wer T.S. 6.9.1.9.b.

The health and safety of the general public were not af tected.

Probable Consecuences of Occurrence Since the reactor was at a very low power level and the RC5 temperature was restored within the allotted time, there was no effect upon the safe operation of the plant.

There are no generic implications associated with this occurrence.

Cause of Event

The low RCS temperature during criticality was a result of a cooldown while attempting to maintain RCS temperature during the refueling physics testing.

Immediate Corrective Action

The decay heat release valve and the main steam trip valve bypasses were i= mediately closed and feeding of the steam generators was stopped.

This allowed the RCS temperature to increase and return to the correct value.

Futter Corrective Action No further corrective action was necessary.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence No further corrective action was necessary.
