Doc ke t Nos. 50-280 Attachnent 50-281 Surry Powe r S ta t ion Un i t s 1 and 2 Update to Visual Inspection Results IE Bulletin 79-17 The nonthly visual inspections required by IE Bulletin 79-17, Revision I have continued on Unit 1.
Since the Unit was down during the month of December, all applicable welds were inspected (accessible and inaccessible weld.reas).
The results of these inspections were consistent with the results presented in the 12/21/79 response.
The visual inspections have also been comple ted for the nonth of January (Unit 1).
No di f fe ren t abnormalities were discovered other than those described in the 12/21/79 response.
The ultrasonic exanination sampling program for Unit 2 has been developed in accordance with the requirements of IE Bulletin 79-17, Revision 1.
Im-pienentation of the program commenced on 1/21/80.
In accordante with Stone & Webster's recommendations concerning the super-ficial rust on the OD of piping visually inspected, no further action will be unde rtaken.
Stone & Webster cor.cluded that the rust will not compromise the integrity of the stainless steel piping involved.
Stone & Webster has also completed an evaluation and analysis of the arc strikes discovered during the visual inspection.
In accordance with their dispositions, the arc strikes will be re-evaluated by station NDT and appropriate corrective actions will be taken.
Following the completion of the ultrasonic, dye penetrant and visual inspec-tions in Unit 2, a report will be submitted detailing the results.
