'dilliamsburg, VA 23185 Director of Reactor Regulation Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

Dear Sir:
This letter is in response to recent statements concerning the licensing procedure for Virginia Electric and Powe r Co,npany's North Anna Unit 2 reactor in Louisa County, Virginia.
de believe that actions taken by Governor Dal t o n. Lieutenant Governor Robb, Attorney General Coleman, and members of the state congressional delegation are both ill-advised and irresponsible, and do not represent the best interests of the citizens of Virginia.
The attitude displayed oy these individuals is pecticularly alarning in view of the dismal record Vepco has acquired in operating its existing nuclear facilities.
Virginia's top elected officials are still suffering from the delusion that "it can't happen here', in spite of the accident at Three Mile Island and the Kameney Commission's subsequent report.
se urge the NRC not to sacrifice safety because of the political pressures which have been generated.
The major reason cited for asking the NRC to break its moratorium is, of course, the cost of elect.icity to Virginia consu nc rs.
ie would have much more confidence in our elected " representatives" if they displayed as.uuch interest in easing the burden of electrical costs thro. ugh rate reform as they have shown in attanotine to railroad
