Enclosure REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR CONTAINMENT FURGE SYSTEM AND CONTAINMENT VEINTING SYSTEM FOR PRAIRIE ISLA.1D UNITS 1 & 2 00CXET N05. 50-282/3C6 1.
With the exception of the contain:nent ventilation isolation (CVI) system, the docketed information as to the design of Engineered Safety Features (ESF) does not adequately address the following areas. Please discuss how your ESF design confor ns with each:
1 - The overriding
- of one tyce of safety actuation signal (e.g.,
radiation) shculd not cause the blocking of any othertype of safety actuation signal (e.g., pressure) to the isolation valves.
2 - Sufficient ;:nysical features (e.g., key lock switches) should be provided to facilitate adequate administrative controls.
3 - The system-level annunciation of the overridden status should be proviced for the containment isolation system and for every safety system imcacted when an override is active.
4 - Diverse signals snould be provided to initiate isolation of the containment ventilation system. Specifically, contaivent hign radiation, safety injection actuation, and containment hign pressure snould automatically initiate Containment Ventilation Isolation (CVI).
5 - The instrumentation and control systems provided to initiate ESF should be designed and qualified as safety-grade equipment.
6 - ihe overriding or resetting
- of the isolation actuation signal should not cause the automatic motion of any ESF valve.
'The folicwing cefinitions are given for clarity of use in this issue:
Override - the signal is still present, and it is blocked in order to
- erform a function contrary to the signal; Reset - the signal har ccme and gone, and 'he circuit is being cleared to return to the nor nal condition.

2-2.
Provide the process and instrumentation (PSID) and schematic drawings for your purge and vent system and control recm heating, ventilatien and air conditioning system.
3.
With regard to Criterion 4 of question 1 above, justify not providing for containment ventilation isolation on hign containment pressure.
4.
With regard to Criterien 5 of questien 1 above, please indicate if the radiation monitors that initiate C'/I are Class lE or not.
If they are not justify their use for a required safety function.
