SUBJECT:

DAIRYLAND POWER COOPERATIVE LA CROSSE BOILING WATER REACTOR (LACBWR)

PROVISIONAL OPERATING LICENSE NO. DPR-45 RELATING TO ADEQUACY OF STATION ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM VOLTAGE FOR THE LA CROSSE BOILING WATER REACTOR

Reference:

(1)

NRC Letter, Gammill to All Power Reactor Licensees, dated August 8, 1979.

Gentlemen:

Your letter (Reference 1) regarding adequacy of station electric distribution system voltage is currently under review.

It is requested that we be granted a sixty-day extension of time to complete this lengthy review.

Extensive time and resources have been redirected to answer inquiries due to the TMI incident.

Adequacy of our " Start-Up" transformer has been discussed in a phone conversation with Mr. James Shea and Mr. Ahmed of the NRC staff.

The " Start-Up" transformer at LACBWR is rated at 5000 KVA.

Full load at LACBWR during 100% operation on this transformer is 3000 KVA.

The transformer is essentially only 2/3 loaded.

No degradation of voltage on the LACBWR grid has been experienced since the plant has been in operation, approximately ten (10) years.

If there are any questions regarding this response, please contact us.

Very truly yours, DAIRYLAND POWER COOPERATIVE Frank Linder, General Manager 1704 102 y,y.ys.,,
