SUBJECT:

FORTHCOMING MEETINGS WITH THE MARK II OWNERS GROU (TA In view of the increased management attention to our work on the unresolved safety issues, an advance notice for several proposed meetings with the Mark II Owners Group in the next few months may be appropriate.

Three meetings are currently being planned. The metings include a one-day meeting in mid-June (Bethesda, MD), a two-day meeting on July 10 and 11 (Bethesda, MD),

and a two-day meeting on July 17 and 18 (Lebanon, NH).

The first meeting in mid-June will consist of a meeting with the applicants for the Mark II lead plants (i.e., Zinner, Shoreham and LaSalle). The purpose of this meeting is to discuss supporting information related to certain proposed exceptions to our lead plant generic criteria for the all-valve SRV leed specification and for submerged structure drag loads.

Infomation from this meeting will be used to resolve the lead plant alternate load criteria proposed by the lead plants for inclusion in the upcoming supplement to NUREG-0487.

At the meting of July 10 and ll, the Mark II owners will discuss recent changes in their Long Tem Program. The Mark II owners are currently reviewing their Intemediate and Long Term Programs. This two part program is to be restructured into a single " closure program." At this meeting they will discuss the tasks, documentation and schedule nsociated with this closure program. This is an important meeting since it may impact our review schedules for the A-8 and A-39 programs.

The purpose of the meeting of July 17 and 18 at CREARE in Lebanon, New Hampshire is to discuss the multivent test programs currently beirg conducted at CREARE.

The results of the second phase of tests along w".h the decision for additional larger scale multivent tests will be discussed with the CREARE personnel and representatives of the Mark II Owners Group. We will 1
