SUBJECT:
JULY 30, 1979 MEETING (USI; TAP-A-3, 4 AND 5)
This memorandum provides a summary of the conclusions that were reached and the work assignments that were made at the July 30, 1979 meeting. Attachment I provides a list of meeting attendees.
A major topic at the meeting was the determination of whether or not an analysis of a LOCA with concurrent steam cenerator tube failures and its effect on ECCS and core performance is necessary.
It was concluded that the LOCA analysis is not necessary since tube plugging criteria will be governed by the burst strength of the tubes (MSLB conditions) and the system analyses indicate many more tube failures are tolerable during a LOCA than during a MSLB. Therefore, the tolerable number of tube failures necessary for establishing a statistically based ISI pre gam will be determined by the MSLB/ tube failure analysis.
The following work assignments were made at the meeting:
1.
J. Strosnider, F. Almeter, and K. Parczewski will prepare the justification for the position that the LOCA analysis need not be performed.
2.
F. Odar (AB), M. Wohl (EEB), and F. Akstulewicz (AAB) are responsible for evaluating the MSLB with concurrent steam generator tube failures scenario and establishing criteria which will ensure that core integrity and radiological limits are not violated. They have scheduled a meeting for August 3 at at 1:00 pm in Room P-602 to begin work on this subject.
3.
J. Zowlinski will take a further look at containment response to MSLB to make sure his calculation bound all types of containments.
He will also take a look at the LOCA condition and will provide an outline for a section in the NUREG report entitled " Containment Response to MSLB and LOCA."

S. Hanauer Attachment II is the draft outline for the final NUREG report stipulating each reviewers contribution and due date.
The next meeting on this subject has been scheduled for August 13 at 1:00 pm in Steve Hanauer's office.
