Dear Friends of the Earth:
I would like to offer this letter of support for the suspension of all activities at Etcheverry Hall relating to the University of California's nuclear reactor.
Many questions have been raised concerning the location of the Hayward fault, the public health ha:ard an earthquake or accident might precipitate, and the lack of any effective evacuation plan for the residents of the nearby area.
Until such questions and concerns are answered, I am in full support of the Friends of the Earth's request that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission:
1.
Suspend all activities at Etcheverry Hall relating to the reactor.
2.
Remove all plutonium and all other radioactive materials and wastes from the Etcheverry Hall site.
3.
Suspend the University of California's license to operate the reactor.
4 Hold public hearings in the City of Berkeley in regards to the University's operation of the reactor.
I am thankful that the Friends of the Earth has taken the time and the effort to look into this potentially dangerous situation.
Sincerely, bid 1
Thomas H. Bates Member of the Assembly THB:DF:psj 1614 212
