Mr. A. Schwencer, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #1 Division of Operating Reactors U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Conmission Washington, D. C.

Dear Sir:

On October 1, 1979, we received a Request for Additional Information in response to our letter of July 19, 1977 relating to the generic issue cf degraded grid celtage as it applies to the Trojan Nuclear Plant.

Sub-sequently, we had a number of telephone call discussions with members of your staff to discuss this letter as well as the other correspondence that had taken place on this subject.

An extensive analysis program was initiated to ensure that the Trojan Nuclear Plant electrical power distribution system undervoltage protec-tion is acceptable. This program is well under way; however, it is not complete at the present time. We therefore request an additional 30 days to respond to your letter of October 1,1979. We feel this will be adequate time to complete our analyses and prepare the' requested response.

Utless we hear otherwise from you, we will proceed on the basis that the 30-day extension is acceptable.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely, L.
