STEAM GENERATOR WATER HAMMER (TAC NOS. 7154 AND 8545)

Plant Name: Calvert Cliffs, Units 1/2 Docket Nos. : 50-317 and 50-318 Responsible Branch: ORS =4 Project Manager:

E. Conner Reviewing Brancn: PSB Review Status: Compiete The Plant Systems Branch has completed its review mgarding water hammer in the Calvert Cliffs feedwater systems. We find that the propcsed procedural changes accompanying the installation of L-tubes can effectively minimize the likelihood of water hammer events and therefore ara acceptable. The bases for our conclusion are provided in the enciesed Safety Evaluation Report.

We nave also found, based on our evaluation, that there is no longer a need for tne License Condition 2.C.3 on the Steam Generator Water Level Rise Rate to minimize tne potential for water hammer.

This completes our review of steam generator water hamner under TACs 7154 and 3545.
