Thank you for your letter of August 8,1979, in response to our letter dated July 11, 1979. As a result of our review, we find that additional information, as discussed with you during a telephone call on August 28, 1979, is needed.
Specifically, your response to Item A does not indicate whether or not the cited nonconformance report has been corrected, by submittal to the Authorized Nuclear Inspector for his acceptance signature. Your response to Item C does not indicate if an evaluation has been made as to whether or not corrective action is required on the specific welds noted in our report. Additionally, your preventive measures are indicated as being increased in-process welding surveillance, but you did not indicate if this is to be a pernanent or temporary feature of the QA program,. and if permanent, where it is to be defined.
For Iten D., you failed to provide corrective action relative to the specific postweld heat treated welds in which weld procedure specifications used, had not been qualified in a postweld heat treated condition; i.e.,
requalification. Additionally, the preventive measares appear to be inadequate in that they will not prevent recurrence, but will serve to detect the deviation after it has occurred.
Please provide this additional information within twenty (20) days in order that we may conplete our review in a timely manner.
