REGULATORY GUIDE 1.136, REVISION 2, " MATERIALS, 3
CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING OF CONCRETE CONTAINMENTS" 4
This guide provides information regarding the NRC staff's positions on the 5
acceptability for NRC licensing actions of CC 1000, 2000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 6
and 7000 of the Code for Concrete Reactor Vessels and Containments publisheo 7
jointly by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME Eoiler and Pressure 8
Vesaul Code,Section III, Division 2, 1977 Edition) and the American Concrete 9
Institute (ACI Standard 359-77) and through Winter 1978 Addenda to ths Code.
In 10 these areas where the NRC staff finds orovisions of the referenced Ccde not 11 sufficient for licensing purpose, supplementary guidelines are given in the 12 regulatory position.
13 Isss *nce and implementation of this guide will provide the NRC reviewers and 14 applicants a cammon basis of understanding what the minimum requirement of 15 materials, constructicn, and testing for concrete containments are, thus mini-16 mizing potential subjective interpretations en the dr. gree of acceptability for 17 materials, construction and testing of concrete containments.
1S Most Ccde requirements are acw bein; accepted by the industry and NF.C.
Therefore, 19 the endorsement of these Code requirements wc ?ld have no further impact as far as EG industry practices go.

I stated in the Revision 1 guide, but Regulatory Positions C5 and C6 are newly 2
proposed.
Regulatory Position C5 recommends a good construction practice that 3
would eliminate the unwanted materials from being left in the concrete.
Regulatory 4
ositico C5 recorrmends that a retes't be conducted or remedial measures be under-5 taken when containments fail to pass an acceptance test.
These would no; have 6
any negative impact on the industry.
