This letter is in reference to I.E. Bulletin 79-09, Failures of G.E.
Type AK-2 Circuit Breakers in Safety Related Systems.
Investication of all General Electric breaker equipment presently in use at Calvert Cliffs revealed that the AK-2A-25 type breaker is used in the Reactor Switch Gear of Units I and II. Our Electrical Engineer-ing Department has no plans for future installations of this type breaker in any systems at this olant.
Our present Preventive Maintenance Program provides for cleaning, maintenance, and operational checks of those breakers during each refueling outaae. Our present Preventive Maintenance Procedure, ner-formed by cualified personnel, incorporates the G.E. circuit breaker instruction manual procedure for maintenance and operational checks.
We are presently incorporating the G.E. Service Advice Letter No.175 (CPDD) 9.3 into our existing procedure to insure the recommended checks and maintenance are nerformed on the under voltage trip device and the breaker trip mechanism. We expect to have this procedure modification completed by June 30, 1979.
