Subject:

Response to IE Bulletin 7909 IE Bulletin 79-09 discusses undervoltage trip failure in General Electric type AK-2 low voltage power circuit breakers. The failures occurred in the mechanism which links the trip device to the trip shaft assembly. Due to inadequate preventive maintenance, either binding or misalignment of the linkage mechanism. prevented the undervoltage relay from tripping the circuit breaker.

At Enrico Fermi 2, General Electric AK-2 circuit breakers are not used nor are they planned to be used for safety related systems; therefore, no corrective action is required.
