t Supplemental Testimony for Radiological Contention Number 16 Black Fox, Units 1 & 2 by Mel Fields, Cecil Thomas, and John Kudrick The purpose of this supplemental testimony is to revise the information in the original testimony on the proposed elevator inside the containment.
Originally the applicant had committed to keep the elevator above 30 feet over the suppression pool surface during power operation.
This was done to prevent any pool dynamic loads from impccting the elevator in the event of a DBA.
I In the latest amendments to the PSAR (through Amendment 13, dated November 17,1978) the applicant has revised their design to include a froth impingement shield at the bottom of the elevator shaft to protect the. elevator. rom any possible impact loads from postulated pool swell-loads. The bottom of the elevator shaft is located at the HCU floor which is approximately 20 feet above the surface of the suppression pool.
The froth impingement shield has been designed to the same requirements as the HCU floor, which is given in S'ection 6.2.1.9 of the Safety Analysis Report for the GESSAR-238 Nuclear Island.
