Dear Sir:

On December 14, 1978 during NRC Inspections 50-245/78-39; 50-336/78-36, your inspector verified in the presence of our representatives deficien-cies in the operability of certain of our portable radiation survey instrumentation.

As a result, all Eberline PIC-6A and Teletector Survey Instruments were inmediately removed from service and will remain out of service until their operability and calibration have been verified.

In addition, Northeast Nuclear Energy Company will, within forty-five (45) days, revise procedures as necessary for the. calibration and control of our portable radiation instrumentation pursuant to Section 6.8 of our Technical Specifications.
