Dear Sir:

Silb j ec t :

Anchor Bolt Replacement at Vermont Yankee In response to your request for additional information, Reference (c), we present the following results and procedures as part of our continuing effort to complete the 79-02 program.

All expansion anchor bolts which were used in concrete block walls to attach piping supports in Seismic Category I systems have been replaced with thru bolting and backing plates or redesigned in such a way that no load carrying capacity would be required of existing expansion anchor bolts in concrete block walls.

The extent that pipe supports with expansion anchor bolts used structural steel shapes instead of base plates is approximately 17 percent.

Since the beginning of this program, we have been testing er replacing expansion anchor bolts regardless of whether they were attached by base plates or structural shapes. We feel this effort complies with the criteria presented in IE Bulletin No. 73-02.

Reference (b) described the anchor bolt replacement program at Vermont Yankee. In that letter we committed to complete the replacement program on or before March 1980 and we still feel that schedule will be met.

We feel certain the above answers your concerns on this subject; however, if you require further information, please contact us at your convenience.

Sincerely, VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER CORPORATION 1869 095 g
