Dear Mr. Paterson:

This letter responds to your letter of January 2, 1980 requesting certain docu-ments that pertain to the amendment of the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Station (facility) operating license requested by the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company (Licensee) to permit the expansion of the facility's spent fuel storage capacity from 953 to 1545 spent fuel assemblies.

In response to your request for all supporting documents and ccrrespondence between the Licensee and the h7C Staff regarding this amendment, attached are the following documents:

Licensee's submittal dated March 27, 1975 (regarding Licensee's proposal to increase the spent fuel storage pool capacity from 318 to 953 spent fuel assemblies).

Licensee's submittal dated June 26, 1975 (regarding the March 27, 1975 proposal).

3.

Licensee's submittal dated July 25, 1975 (regarding the March 27, 1975 proposal).

4.

Licensee's submittal dated November 22, 1978 (regarding modification of the spent fuel storage capacity).

Licensee's submittal datec. leptember 18, 1979 (regarding the current amendment to irwrease spent fuel pool storage capacity from 953 to 1545).

6.

Letter from the Licensee to the h3C dated October 18, 1979 (regarding the license fee).

7.

Letter from the NRC to the Licensee dated June 22, 1979.

NRC's Amendment No. 11 to the facility operating license with supporting Safety Evaluation and Environmenta] Impact Appraisal (regarding Licensee's proposal to increase the spent fuel storage pool capacity from 318 to 953 spent fuel assemblies under cover letter of October 31, 1975).

Letter from the NRC to the Licensee dated October 5, 1979 (regarding license fee).

Letter from the NRC to the Licensee dated April 14, 1978.

In response to your request for reports, memoranda or studies by the NRC Staff evaluating the present amendment enclosed are the following documents which generally relate to spent fuel storage:

1.

NUREG-0575 (three volumes) dated August 1979.

2.

NUREG-CR-0649 printed March 1979.

Since you are on our distribution list for the above facility, you will receive copies of all future correspondence regarding the proposed amendment including the NRC Staff's environmental impact appraisal and safety evaluation which are now is progress.

For background information, see also NRC Staff's Safety Eval-uations dated August 16, 1968 and February 25, 1972 which were distributed to you.previously.

Regarding your request for a list of the Staff reviewers of the proposed amendment, the project manager assigned to this facility is Morton B. Fairtile assisted by Sheryl Wookey. The individuals who are currently involved with the technical review and, therefore, potential witnesses if a hearing is ordered by the ASLB are Seymour Block (Environmental Evaluation Branch), John Zudans (Engineering Branch), and Edward Lantz (Plant Systems Branch). Additional individuals may be involved as the review progresses.
