Dear Mr. Ballard:
This is in response to your letter of January 15, 1980 regarding the application by Dairyland Power Cooperative for a full term license to operate a nuclear power plant that was constructed in 1967 and is currently operating under a provisional license.
The plant is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River at mile 678.6., approximately 330 feet below U. S. Lock and Dam No. 8, near Genoa, Wisconsin.
At the present time the Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) and the Higgin's Eye Pearly Mussel (Lampsilis hiacinsi) are the only two endangered species that are listed for the project area.
In view of the fact that this plant has been in operation since 1967 and we have noted no adverse impacts to any endangered species, we foresee no adverse impacts on Federally listed species as a result of plant o pera tions in the future.
This letter provides comment only on the endangered species aspect of the project. Comments on other aspects of the project under the authority of and in accordance with the provisions of the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (48 Stat. 401, as amended; 16 U.S.C. 661 et. seq.) may be sent under separate cover.
Sincerely yours, ks
