Dear Sir:
Dairyland Power Corporative has applied for a full-tenn license to operate a nuclear power plant that was constructed in 1967 and is currently operating under a provisional license.
The plant is located near Genoa, Wisconsin, on the east bank of the Mississippi River at mile 678.6, approximately 330 feet below U.S. Lock and Dam No. 8 and about 17 miles south of the city of Lacrosse, Wisconsin. A map showing the site of the plant (Genoa Steam Station) is enclosed.
This letter constitutes a formal request for consultation with, and the assistance of the Department of the Interior in furtherance of the purposes of the 1978 amendments to the Endangered Species Act. Pursuant to Section 7(c) of the Act, please forward information as to whether any plants and animals that are listed or proposed to be listed as endangered or threatened species may be present in the vicinity of the power plant discussed above. In the event that listed and/or candidate species are involved, please advise of any suggestions or reconnendations that would facilitate further interagency cooperation as required in the Act.
