% lN Following the exchange of pleadings concerning the requests for a public hearing filed by Professor Alan H.
Kirshen and by the Natural Resources Committee of the Citizens Advisory Board of the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, the Omaha Public Power District has been in touch with Professor Kirshen concerning the possibility of resolving any questions that he and the Committee may have concerning the District's pending application for a license amendment authorizing an increase in rated power at Fort Calhoun. Stober December 21, 1979 Page 2 it has been agreed that a public meeting will be conducted in Omaha on January 16, 1980, at which representatives of the District and its consultants will make a formal pre-sentation to the Committee, following which there will be an opportunity for members of the Committee and the public to ask questions about the application. It is hoped that one or more representatives of the Commission's regulatory staff and the Nebraska Department of Environmental Con-servation also will be present at the meeting and partici-pate in responding to questions.
Professor Kirshen has indicated that the January 16, 1980, public meeting may serve to resolve the Committee's concerns with the District's application, and that he and the Committee will seriously consider withdrawing their requests for a hearing before the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board following the meeting. Accordingly, we request that the Licensing Board defer taking any action ,
with respect to the requests for a public hearing until we and Professor Kirshen have had the opportunity to notify you, following January 16, 1980, of the outcome of the public meeting.
