IMPLDIENTATION Cf hCCTIENDATIONS OF " FOLLOW-UP ON
SUBJECT:
ACRS LETTERS" The Co=tission has reviewed the paper, " Follow-Up on ACRS Letters" and believes that steps along the lines recor=endhd should be. implemented.
Accordingly, the Commission makes the following requests:
y.g 1.
NRR is requested to proceed with implementation'of the recommendations i i dealing with NRC staff practices (pages v and vi).
2.
The ACRS is requested to proceed with implementation of recommendations dealing with ACRS practices (pages vi and.vii).
3.
OPE is requested to prepare draft procedural guidance responsive ~to item 3 in the recommendations relating to the Cotimission's role (page iv). The guidance should not call for written staff progress reports to the Commission on a routine periodic basis, but only when judged useful (by the staff or the Commission) in connection with some specific items.
The draf t shculd be submitted for the Commission's consideration within one month.
4.
Uhile the scope of the paper is limited to ACRS letters on specific nuclear power plants, the Commission believes that other matters on which it receives letter reports from the ACRS could benefit from consideration of the paper's analyses and recommendations.
The Commission requests the Executive Director for Operations-working with the ACRS--to take or recommend such steps in connection with those other areas of ACRS advice as may be appropriate in the light of the report and as experience is gained with intlementation of its recommendations.
