Washington D C. 20555 ATT: Mr. Charles MacDonald Dear Mr. MacDonald Picker req. tested an amendment of Certificate of Compliance No. 5796 in May of 1979 adding and alternate radioactive source (137Cs).
The amendment (your control no.13098) has been received and the 137 Cs source was classified as special form. 'Ibe source capsule with cesium inside will not pass the 14750 F for 10 minute temperature test to qualify for special form therefore the source should have been classified as normal form. In our request for amendment the source description was indicated as in our previous 137Cs. transportation license (34-08145-03 copy attached).
The contair.er and overpack will contain the radioactive materials the radioactive materials per the data supplied to the N.R. C. on October 17 1975 (copy attached) qualifying the package as t pe B.
3 137 Please correct the C.O.C.
5796 changing the special form for Cs to normal form.
60 The Co will qualify for special form and should remain unchanged.
Presently we have customers waiting since May 1979 for source movement and appreciate all efforts you can exert to resolve this matter.
