ITEM NO. 1 Determine whether current alarm systems and evacuation announcement systems are clearly audible or visible throughout all plant areas with emohasis on high-noise areas. Determination in high noise areas must be made with the maximum anticipated noise level.

Resoonse In recent tests at ANO, with special emphasis on high-noise areas, it was determined that there are several areas within the plant where neither the evacuation alarm system nor the announcement system can be acknowledged.

The determination in the high noise areas was made with the maximum antici-pated noise level . The tests were conducted throughout the olant with the exception of the Unit 1 Peactor Building. The Unit 1 Reactor Building tests will be conducted duriric the next scheduled outace of sufficient duratior

Mr. K. V. Seyfrit October 10, 1979 ITEM N0. 2 Determine what corrective action is necessary to assure that areas identified as inaudible areas in (1) above, will receive adequate audible / visual evacua-tion signals. In areas where adequate audible / visual evacuation signals cannot be assured by hardware changes, determine what additional administrative measures are necessary to assure personnel evacuation.

Response

Hardware changes will be made to assure audible or visual signals can be observed in all areas where practical. The hardware changes will consist of adding an audible alarm / visual signal, or adding to the telephone announce-ment system.

In those areas where it is not practical to add adequate audible / visual alarms, administrative measures will assure personnel are evacuated.

ITEM N0. 4 For accessible areas, all corrective actions determined per item (2) must be completed within 120 days of the date of issuance of this Bulletin. For in-accessible areas, the written report must include a time schedule for comple-tion of corrective actions in this area.

Response

Hardware changes to assure audible / visual evacuation signals will be made for accessible areas by December 4,1979, where practical; otherwise, ad-ministrative measures will be taken to assure personnel are evacuated.

The hardware changes required for inaccessible areas will be completed by the end of the next refueling outage for the respective units. The scheduled refueling outage for Unit 1 is November,1980, and for Unit 2 it is February, 1981.
