Response
Bechtel has taken the following actions:
1.
The offending velders were immediately reinstructed on veld rod control and emphasis was placed on portable varmer energizing requirements.
2.
A documented training session was conducted by Bechtel site management.
In attendance were various craft and area superintendents, lead field engineers, assistant lead field engineers, and the assistant subcontracts manager.
3 Bechtel supervisors and field engineers are concentrating on this subject to assure conformance to opecification requirements.
h.
Bechtel Field Engineering has re-issued the " General Instructions to Welders" which is given to velders upon satisfactorily passing the velders' qualification tests.
Each velder is required to sign a statement that says, "I have yead and undcrctand the ' General Instructions to Welders.'"
These instructions also have been issued in French due to the number of Canadians on the project.
With these actions completed, full compliance has been achieved.
