Page 1 of I Docke t No. 50-338 Report No. LER 79-154/03L-0 Description of Event On November 29, 1979, with the unit at cold shutdown , the temperature indicator for the middle level of the "B" steam generator suppart (TI-AM111-B-1) was found reading 5'F higher than the actual temperature.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence Because the actual support temperature dif fered from the value indicated on TI-AM111-B-1 by 5'F, it was possible for the temperature at the middle of the support to drop below the Technical Specification limit of 225'F. In other words, when TI-AMlll-B-1 indicated a value of 229'F or lower, the support temperature would actually be below the 225*F limit. Review of operator logs revealed that temperatures had occurred which, when taking into account the error factor of the indicator, were contrary to T.S. 3. 4.10. 2. a . The health and safety of the general public were not af fected by this event. There are no generic implications associated with this occurrence.

Cause of Event The cause for the high indication was drif t in the temperature ind ica tor 's zero adjustment.

Immediate Corrective Action The indicator and associated loop were recalibrated in accordance with applic-able calibration procedores and then restored to operation.

Scheduled Corrective Action No scheduled corrective action is required.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence No further actions are required.
